Polotsk Women's High School

The Polotsk Women's High School was opened in 1903 on the basis of a private women's school. The position of the head matron was held by a respected woman in the city, a graduate of Cambridge University, Wilhelmina Fuldovna Rulkovius..

It was a seven-year educational institution with an additional teaching class. One of the main subjects that high school students studied was the law of God. For girls from Orthodox families, Catholics, Jews or Lutherans, this subject was taught in different languages. Handicraft was one of the favorite subjects of the girls, which was taught from the 1st to the 7th grade.

Throughout the course young Poloks studied several foreign languages. It is known that the French language was led by Victoria Rosio from the town of Chateaux-la-Foret. After the revolution she left Polotsk and returned to her homeland in France.

In 1918 the gymnasium was closed and several Soviet labor schools were opened in the gymnasium building.
